THE NIGHT OF THE CHILDREN

The earth below the revival tent shook, bringing Dalton Walsh’s meeting to a close. Was this some mysterious force that God had unleashed in response to his preaching? And how could anyone explain the sudden appearance and disappearance of Patrick, who had been missing for more than a year, at the back of the tent? Perhaps it was a force unleashed by the knowledge of what had occurred in the small town and the desire to make amends for the deadly evil. Where had all the children gone?

Later that night, other sightings began. Lost, forgotten children that had not been seen in years, strangely unchanged from the day they disappeared. Right down to the clothes they had been wearing when they vanished.

Reverend Dalton slowly came to the conclusion that whatever lay hidden, now was the time for it to be revealed.  Whatever dark secrets the Reed’s had preserved, the time had finally come for . . . THE RECKONING

Description

Evangelist Dalton Walsh was in town for a few days to lead the tent revival. Just when the revival was well in swing, the ground shook with a quake. Then, a youth appeared at the back, standing there staring at him. In a moment, the youth disappeared. Later, several people agreed that the youth was Patrick Moore, who had been missing for a year. Also that evening, three children were out playing when several mysterious kids appeared. The newcomers did not talk and were not friendly. In fact, they started a brawl with Dennis. When several adults came out, the strange kids disappeared, and it was then that they found their dog had been killed. Police Chief Tom Abbot was called. He soon realized from the description that a couple of the strange kids looked similar to missing children from years past, although that made no sense.

At the same time, hunter, trapper, and taxidermist Matt Reed was accidentally caught in one of his own steel traps. He was able to free the trap and stagger back to his yard before he collapsed. The doctor got him into bed, where he then seemed to be possessed. While unconscious as in a coma, children’s voices seemed to be coming from him. Pastor Walsh was called to sit with him and pray. Chief Tom slowly began to realize that the strange kids, the voices, were in some way related to missing kids. Although some kids had disappeared thirty years ago, three had vanished just within the last three years. In each recent case, the children had been returning home after working at Nina’s animal shelter, which was near the Reed’s property. What could all these unusual events possibly have to do with each other?
